The preparation of this updated trolley history has been a project of the Publications Committee of the Fenton History Center. The Committee's interest and critical support all along the way have lent energy and enthusiasm to my work. My many hours spent with "Vic" Norton during the preparation of this book have given me an appreciation that goes beyond words. He has shared his extensive knowledge of local history and his well-documented photo collection with unassuming helpfulness, and has carefully read the completed text to detect factual errors. Patricia Appleyard Parker has shared her journalistic training in both the editorial and technical production of this work. Robert Johnson, who has a keen desire to see one of the original trolley cars restored, provided photos that added to my knowledge of the last days of the electric cars. My sincere thanks to all.

Preparing this work has been a fascinating learning experience for me. It is difficult now to pass along the lake shore without picturing the trolleys and hearing their clanging bells. I hope that you who read this will feel something of that same thrill.
